Ken is an Associate Director with Interel Consulting and has over 15 years’ experience as a senior political and media adviser in Parliament, consultancy, trade union and not-for-profit organisations.
Ken has a track record of success in providing the strategic analysis, advisory capabilities and campaign delivery that companies and not-for-profit organisations require to achieve their goals and to solve the problems that they face.
Ken was Shadow Cabinet Political Advisor for Labour in the run-up to the 1997 General Election victory. Subsequently he was political consultant providing political counsel to senior business figures. Prior to starting his own consultancy Ken was head of Politics and Media for the UK steelworkers union.
Ken is an experienced and successful problem-solver and political and stakeholder negotiator. He also has considerable experience as a media spokesperson on regional, national and international radio and television.
Ken’s specialisms include:
• Strategic political analysis and advice;
• Government relations and lobbying; including cross-party and cross-organisational coalition building to influence and educate policy-makers in Westminster, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Brussels;
• Public and media relations message development and delivery;
• Reputation management and issues & crisis management advice and support – including acting as a media spokesperson;
• Stakeholder engagement, internal communication and corporate responsibility.
Ken has run many successful campaigns. Most notably he managed a five and half year-long political, media and legal campaign – which included working on five successive Pension Acts and winning a European Court of Justice case against the UK Government – that led to the creation of the Pensions Protection Fund and the Financial Assistance Scheme (the latter providing £12.5 billion for 140,000 people who had lost their expected occupational pensions).
