A
guide to Westminster
Legislation stems from an extensive
process of inspiration, deliberation and reformation before it
arrives on the statute book. Understanding how this process develops
and where and when to feed into it forms a crucial part of making
politics and government work for you.
When
it all starts again...
Of
course, all of this is part of a never ending cycle. Government
is a dynamic process. As society and the economy develop so legislation
requires consistent and constant updating to remain relevant.
Even without electoral change political priorities will change.
It remains important therefore for all interests groups to maintain
at the least a watching brief over the parliamentary process.
No legislation is perfect and, as the shape of the economy alters
so will the manner in which legislation affects it. Where primary
legislation may not affect you, the manner of implementation of
secondary powers may lead to complications. Review bodies are
constantly looking to improve, and those who feel restricted will
be aiming for deregulation. Maintaining contact with those who
inform the policy progress keeps you ahead of the game when the
next change in the cycle comes along. |
